Man rescued from Aquia Creek marsh

Stafford Fire and Rescue personnel came to the aid of a 19-year-old man who had gotten stuck in a marsh in Aquia Creek near Willow Landing Marina Saturday morning.

The man had called 911 on his cellphone after having walked out of the Aquia Harbour subdivision in the early morning, according to Fire and Rescue spokesman Mark Doyle. He was unsure of his location when he called, so water rescue teams were dispatched to search for him.

The man was spotted by a LifeEvac helicopter stationed at Stafford Regional Airport, and water crews were able to easily extract the man and bring him to shore.

He was not injured, but was transported to the hospital as a precaution against possible hypothermia.

Doyle said the man had been stranded for hours and was not dressed appropriately for the cold.
